Nasal Polyps

Understanding Nasal Polyps

Nasal polyps are soft, noncancerous growths that can block the nasal passages, leading to congestion, loss of smell, and recurrent sinus infections. While surgery is sometimes necessary, Joplin ENT is the only ENT practice in the region that offers non‑surgical options such as biologic therapies. These advanced medications target the underlying inflammation that causes polyps, helping to shrink them and reduce symptoms without the need for surgery.

Xhance® Nasal Spray is another innovative treatment we provide. Unlike traditional sprays, Xhance uses a unique delivery system that directs medication high and deep into the nasal passages where polyps form. This helps reduce inflammation, improve airflow, and restore the sense of smell. For many patients, Xhance offers a convenient, non‑surgical way to manage nasal polyps and improve quality of life.

For patients with nasal polyps, surgery such as functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) may be necessary. To maintain results and prevent regrowth, we use advanced biologics including Dupixent®, Xhance® nasal spray, and Tezspire®. Joplin ENT is the only ENT practice in the region offering these cutting‑edge non‑surgical therapies, giving our patients access to options typically found only in large academic centers.approach

Common Symptoms

Because nasal polyps don’t cause pain, they often go undetected until they interfere with breathing. Common symptoms include:

  • Persistent nasal congestion or runny nose
  • Reduced or lost sense of smell
  • Facial pressure or fullness
  • Snoring or mouth breathing
  • Frequent sinus infections

If you experience ongoing nasal obstruction that doesn’t improve with medication, an ENT specialist can perform a simple exam to check for polyp

Treatment Options

Treatment depends on the size and severity of the polyps. Mild cases may respond to nasal corticosteroid sprays or other anti-inflammatory medications.
For larger or recurring polyps, your ENT may recommend an in-office procedure or endoscopic sinus surgery to remove them and restore proper airflow.

At Joplin ENT, our specialists offer comprehensive evaluation and care to help you breathe freely again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. While surgery such as functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) is sometimes needed to remove polyps, we also provide advanced medical therapies to maintain results after surgery. Treatments like Xhance® nasal spray and Dupixent® biologic therapy help reduce inflammation, prevent regrowth, and support long‑term control of symptoms.
