Hello, I’m Dr. Suzanne Long. My journey began at Truman State University, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in communication disorders. I originally planned to become a speech-language pathologist until I took my very first introduction to audiology course. Something clicked. I realized audiology was the perfect blend of science, problem-solving, and personal connection, and I knew I had found the field where I belonged. I completed my Doctor of Audiology degree at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and have been practicing ever since.
I’m a board-certified audiologist, a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, and I hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. I have spent my career helping patients reconnect with the sounds that matter most, and I truly believe hearing care is one of the most meaningful areas of health care.
Before joining Joplin Ear Nose & Throat, I worked as an audiologist at a local hospital for nearly six years, gaining experience in a wide range of diagnostic and rehabilitative services. I joined Joplin ENT in 2011, and it has been home ever since. Working alongside Dr. Renée Walker has been one of the greatest professional blessings of my career. She is not only a talented physician, but the best coworker, mentor, and friend anyone could ask for.
What I love most about audiology is that every patient has unique listening needs. No two assessments, no two stories, and no two solutions are ever quite the same. There is something incredibly rewarding about helping someone hear better, especially our veterans. Their experiences and stories remind me daily why this work matters.
Outside of the clinic, my life is full in all the best ways. I’m married and have two teenage boys who keep me busy (and well-entertained) with their musical talents — from concert band and jazz band to choir performances. When I do get quiet time, I love settling in at home to binge a good show or work on a craft project. When the stars align and schedules magically cooperate, I treasure my nights out with my “Bad Moms”— a group of close friends who remind me that laughter, community, and a little chaos are all part of what makes life so good.
If you are looking for an audiologist who values careful listening, personalized care, and helping you hear your world more clearly, I would be honored to be part of your journey.
